Midwifery nursing care

Nursing encompasses independent and collaborative care of individualities of all ages, families, groups and communities, sick or well and in all settings. It includes the promotion of health, the forestalment of illness, and the care of ill, disabled and dying people. The midwifery model of care is grounded on the five crucial principles of continuity of care, informed choice, community- grounded, choice of birth setting and substantiation- informed practice. Midwives give care for women throughout the gestation and childbirth and are the lead health professional for those women whose gravidity is uncomplicated. Midwives work as part of a team of healthcare professionals including GPs, health visitors and social workers.
